History of IGDC: From NASSCOM Roots to an Industry-Led Movement
The India Game Developer Conference (IGDC) is the country’s premier event for game creators, studios, and industry professionals. First launched in the early 2000s, IGDC has grown into the longest-running and largest game developer conference in India. What began as a NASSCOM initiative has now become a fully industry-led platform—run by volunteers, powered by passion, and dedicated to advancing India’s place in the global gaming ecosystem. From showcasing new talent and ideas to hosting international delegations, IGDC is where India’s game development community comes together to learn, connect, and grow.
About GDAI
The Game Developer Association of India (GDAI) is a national, non-profit body representing the full spectrum of Indian game developers—ranging from large studios to indie teams and solo creators. Formed in 2024, GDAI builds on IGDC’s legacy to create a permanent structure for advocacy, collaboration, and growth. Its mission is to enable business opportunities, upskill talent, and shape policy that positions India as a global hub for video game development. Every initiative under GDAI is powered by industry volunteers, making it a true reflection of the community it serves.
Flagship Initiatives
From students to global stages, GDAI’s initiatives are building India’s game development ecosystem. IGDC remains the flagship conference, bringing the community together to learn, connect, and grow. Developer Day and Game Connect spark knowledge-sharing in new hubs and colleges, while Women in Gaming drives diversity with 15+ chapters and 1,000+ women engaged. Globally, International Delegations showcase Indian talent at GDC, Gamescom, and Tokyo Game Show, while Incubation & Skilling programs and the WAVES Game Jam nurture the next generation of creators.
